Kafuko Michael joined the Iowa State University Uganda program in 2019 as a supervisor for the Nutrition Education Centers. He holds a clinical and community nutrition diploma from the Uganda Institute of Allied Health and Management Sciences - Mulago. His practical experience focuses on clinical, community, research, and capacity building, emphasizing nutrition in the first 1000 days of the child’s life. Kafuko assesses the training needs of communities and helps in sensitizing members to the dangers of food insecurity and best practices in home water, sanitation, and hygiene. Kafuko utilizes Positive Deviance/Hearth (PDH), a behavior change program used to rehabilitate underweight and wasted children without medical complications; sustain their rehabilitation; and prevent future malnutrition.
